Visit the restored Neues Museum (New Museum) and have a chance to explore ancient art and history in the company of a historian.

After major damage in World War II and a prolonged period of neglect, British architect David Chipperfield began the immense task of restoring the Neues Museum building. Not only was the main structure revitalized, but the ancient artifacts are displayed in an exciting contemporary style.

You'll start your tour with an examination of the museum itself, starting with its conception in the 19th century by architect Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Your guide will highlight Chipperfield's restoration work as well as the decorative program of Wilhelm Kaulbach.

During your tour, you'll be able to see the museum's collection of artifacts from Old World cultures. These prehistory and early history items include impressive ancient Egyptian art, such as the legendary 3,300-year-old bust of Queen Nefertiti, which still has the original color from the Amarna period. You'll also see examples of Egyptian portrait sculpture with the so-called Berlin “Green Head” – named after its greenish stone. The museum holds artifacts from other cultures as well, including the skull of the Neanderthal from Le Moustier, and Heinrich Schliemann’s famous treasure of ancient Troy with works of ceramics, gold, and weaponry.
