The magnificent mausoleums and the many monuments and tombs, such as the Agra Fort in the city and Fatehpur Sikri nearby, reveals the city's days of glory as the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries.
Agra is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Besides the architectural splendors, vestiges from the Mughal Empire, visitors can discover unique crafts, such as inlay work on marble, gold thread embroidery and carpets.
On arrival visitors will stop at the world famous Taj Mahal and the magnificent Agra Fort. The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous monuments in the world, not only because of its iconicity but also for the charming story behind its construction. The building, entirely made of white marble and stone inlay, was built by Emperor Shahajahan in the memory of his favorite wife Mumtaj Mahal who passed away in 1631.
Near the 17 hectares that form the gardens of the Taj Mahal, stands the important 16th century Mughal monument known as the Red Fort. Among the many others fairy-tale palaces that the tour will touch, the Jahangir Palace and the Khas Mahal, built by Shah Jahan, the audience hall Diwan-i-Khas as well as two very beautiful mosques.
Visitors will go back to Delhi by evening.
