The first destination on your tour is the Zhenning Lu Market. Your guide will accompany you through the trading rows, providing perfect orientation and explaining and basic concepts of eating in China, like the importance of sharing meals or how geography and politics influenced Shanghai's reputation in terms of food.
After an hour in the market, your tour will take you to the authentic Shanghainese restaurant located in a colonial-era villa. The house-turned-restaurant has gorgeous Spanish tile and cherry paneling, as well as the family's antique collection. Your expert guide will carefully assist you when choosing a selection of dishes, that contain some of the ingredients you've seen on the market part of the tour.
You’ll also learn some current food trends in Shanghai and China generally. Note that this is about 10 minutes from the market, so we will begin our walk with a little walk!
